The Heart of Ed All

In the inaugural episode of The Heart of It All, host Dr. Kevin Brown, executive director of the Texas Association of School Administrators, welcomes Dr. Roosevelt Nivens, superintendent of Lamar CISD, TASA president and National Superintendent of the Year, for a powerful conversation about purpose, perseverance and the influence educators have on students’ lives. Nivens shares his own journey from struggling as a young student to finding an educator who believed in him and helped change the trajectory of his life. He reflects on lessons learned through football, teaching and leadership, including his belief that leaders must protect students, remove barriers and “speak life” into those they serve. The conversation also explores purpose-driven leadership, the Texas Promise, the importance of recognizing students’ needs beyond academics and the vital role public education plays in creating opportunity for every child.
